Overview
Pfizer, Social Alpha, and IIT-D launched the INDovation Program to support breakthrough healthcare innovations by start-ups in India. The program aims to equip healthcare systems for a post Covid19 world. The two-year initiative is for a cohort of 6 start-ups to accelerate their commercialisation journey through grant support for product development, clinical validation, regulatory pathway, market access, and industrial collaborations. The program has two tracks – focused on Digital Health and on Oncology.
FOCUS AREAS
National Digital Health Mission (NDHM) directive will facilitate an integrated ecosystem of public and private solutions for connected care. This directive thus presents opportunities for innovators to improve ways in which quality, affordable health, and care services are delivered and accessed. Integrating digital tools and technologies can build effective care delivery systems. The program will curate innovations building solutions for:
- Digital Out-Patient Departments (OPDs): Clinical data analysis tools / user-centered / interoperable solutions for health records / health communications / epidemiological surveillance and tracking health outcomes
- Care Delivery Solutions for Continuum of Care
- Smart Supply Chains: Vaccine supply chain, solutions monitoring from ‘order to cash’, etc.
- Digital Clinical Trials Management System
- Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning based solutions for: Point-of-care (POC) diagnostic aid tool / drug discovery, drug repurposing and rapid sensitivity testing
- Facilitation of achieving national health goals, programs, and priorities
The number of cancer cases are increasing, and about 87% of these patients seek medical attention in advanced stages of the disease. This contributes to India's remarkably high mortality-incidence ratio (0.68). Other factors that contribute to poor cancer outcomes in India include limited health system infrastructure, scarcity of oncology specialists, and patients' inability to afford cancer treatment. The World Health Organisation’s report on cancer (2020) also identifies the key deficits in care system. The program will curate innovations building solutions for:
- Preventing ‘Missed diagnoses’ of cases by creating access to cancer screening at last-mile healthcare units
- Solutions for ‘Smart Oncology Practice’ and Building capacity for effective interventions and high-quality care for all, and eliminating inequalities
- Solutions for Coordinated Cancer Management
